SCHOOL SPIRITS
Design | Animation
Studio: ArtClass
Main title sequence for Paramount+'s Original Series School Spirits, a horror mystery following a teen navigating the afterlife after her mysterious death. We designed the title and credits around the show's tone: a teen grunge ghost noir, dark and mysterious, with some humor. The result is an opening sequence with a textured, layered look reminiscent of collages, combining practical effects with digital animation.
As part of the design and animation team at ArtClass, I helped bring the show's main title sequence to life. My role included developing style frames, designing and animating a section of the final sequence, and leading the type design for the show's title and credits.
Early on, we explored several narrative ideas, including a labyrinth, teenage katabasis, and being lost in time, pairing each with a distinct visual style and animation feel until we found a direction that fit.
From there, I designed multiple rounds of style frames to test which concept and look pairing best captured "grunge ghost noir" without tipping too far into horror or whimsy. Once the cut paper collage direction was locked, I designed and animated a section of the final sequence.
